Harris (2008) explores the different viewpoints about the second-trimester abortion. The issue of abortion is very complicated because of the high level of polarization between those that support it and those that oppose. The article explores the question of how doctors decide whether or not to carry out an abortion on second-trimester pregnancies. The issue of the appropriate time to carry out an abortion is very much asked. The article explores the difficult choices doctors and pregnant women face when dealing with the issues of abortion. In addition to aspects of law and social-political factors, there are others that exist, and they include, the violent nature of second-trimester abortion, psychological and personal factors, ethical concerns and visceral concerns associated with the fetus. This is all aspects that doctors have it had considering because in most cases, such pregnancies offer great dangers to the fetus and pregnant mothers. Pro-choice advocates emphasize the need to consider the life of the pregnant mothers in terms of the physical, social and economic well-being.

The article sheds light on the difficult issue that is abortion. Legalization of abortion is a measure that has taken consideration of the life of pregnant women. However, there are very many factors that revolve around the issue of abortion. These issues have created great disputes between the pro-choice movement and the anti-abortion. On the one hand, opponents view abortion at second trimester as violent while proponent considers social, physical and economic factors influencing the lives of pregnant women. Abortion is, therefore, a matter that has polarized the society. It is an issue with great concerns that require a lot of thinking and consideration.

The article explores various perceptions and notions associated with the bible. The article, first of all, describes the biblical version of the notion of abortion. The author points out that there is no solid mention on the issue of abortion in either the old or the New Testament. This is despite the high number of opponents of abortion who base their theories using theories from the bible. One of the major issues based on the bible is the law associated with murder. The bible is very clear on the issue of taking life. However, it begs the question of whether a fetus in the womb is an actual and where the issue of murder applies to them. Another issue is that most women are forced into abortion. Of abortion claim that most women and girls feel pressured into the act. Another perspective is that abortion is very dangerous. It poses great risks of injuries to women. The article is, therefore, effective in offering a different perspective of abortion based on the viewpoints of its opponents.

Reflection

The article, therefore, shows various issues of abortion. Many factors make the issue of abortion have so many opponents. They include religious factors. Health implications, social factors, racism and many others. These are all valid claims that require great considerations especially from policymakers. However, there is also the great need for consideration of opposite opinions. Many of the issues of abortion have in many capacities failed to major questions of abortion. This shows that the issue of abortion is highly divided. There is, therefore, a great need for a consensus between the opposite sides.
