A Millennial is anyone born between 2001
and 1981. The group is a unique category of individuals who are not only
interested in making a change in the world but also work in a dynamic
environment and one that is accommodating. They are unlike the generation
before them which do not mind spending 10 hours of a day stuck in the same
chair in the office alone. The strategy works since the millennial generation
makes the highest percentage of the population currently and they understand
what their needs are. Therefore, it is beneficial to organizations since the
products are created by the generation consuming them hence target specific. In
addition, the millennials are fresh minds from college and others still in
college where their creativity is at the peak hence beneficial to the company (Hyder).
The new working environment by
millennials requires accommodation for talent and utilization of one's full
potential. It is through passion and use of people's potential that brought
things like Google glasses into existence. The environment, therefore, is
helpful in unlocking full potential in people as people work in teams. Teamwork
helps people complement each other and bringing a more viable idea or
innovation. Therefore, people spend the least time possible on a project that
would have taken long if it were one person handling it. The working
environment also becomes interesting for people. Therefore, companies are more
likely to retain employees than in the previous working environment (Gilbert).
My workplace is accommodating of both
generations which is helpful in providing input from both. Even if the
Millennials are taking over the market, it is also good to put into
consideration the needs of the previous generation, therefore, come up with
products that do not leave out some people. The strategy in my view is a great
way of company retaining clients from all generation which promote brand
loyalty as they cater for every market, unlike others who only target the young
people.
A working environment that offers
employees team building retreats and gives its employees a chance to grow
professionally through mentorship is a productivity-oriented environment. They
are among the many unique strategies that my workplace offers. Through these,
everyone in the team is able to believe in the company's purpose and mission.
The company, therefore, does not need to get new employees every time due to
resignation or poaching by other better-strategic organizations.
