Racial relations and conflicts in the Human Society

In the conventional human society, there are issues of diversity and variations in the demographical features of human beings. It is to say that there are innate characteristics that are unique to one group of people but completely different in another group. Some of the demographical include race, gender, ethnicity, religion or political affiliations, and leanings. It is imperative to note and mention that in as much as some of these features were created by human beings, some are purely biological and permanent.  For instance, it is practically impossible for a person to change or alter their racial features and characteristics because the physiological aspects of one’s race are innate or inborn. In the same line of thought and argument, there are certain stereotypes and misconceptions that are associated with people of the particular race or persons.  A practical or common stereotype and misconception are that the people of color are aggressive, physical, tough and utterly offensive. In essence, the stereotype has been put forth by the advent of the social media and the movies, from the entertainment industry. The net effect is that the general society would be skewed to believe that the portrayals of the mainstream media are accurate and true. However, the reality might be different from what is common to the public as a popular view. Intuitively, it is imperative and critical to note and record that there are some historical truths and perspectives that have to be considered and contextualized.  People of color have had a difficult historical times that bordered on slavery and racial discrimination. Thus, it has been a fair postulation to reason that the human society has skewed some level of unfairness in the people of color. In retrospect, one would be safe to assume and subsequently assert that the people, of color, have had strained relationship with other races. Accordingly, this argument would explore the tenets and aspects of racial relations regarding the unfair treatment and portrayal of people of color relative to people of other races.

    To begin with, the overall mood and tone of the poem seek to paint a picture of an unfair racial segregation and some sense of unfairness. This could be denoted from the choice of words that the writer of the poem has used to refer to a person of color. In all aspects and fairness, one would be excused to mention that some of those words portray a weak demeanor and lack of respect for the people in reference. A practical case and instance are the first line of the poem where the words…” with careless pose”…depict a person who lacks grace or class. The net effect of this description is that the people of color lack in candor, style, civility and are to an extent unable to ooze out fashion. Also, the feeling and logic of the line are that the people of color are uncivilized and have zero tolerance for the style of any form of taste. Conventionally, the way and manner through which a person uses to pose form the first impression as an outward sign of the culture of the person in question. Thus, the argument that one is careless in pose seeks to explain the fact that inward personality of the person would be careless and unmeasured or uncivilized. In the ordinary sense, all people of all races ought to be regarded equally with the same regard of respect, decorum, and candor. However, when writers and the general society seems to have a weak or negatively skewed view of people of color against others, it smacks of bad faith and unfair portrayals. Intuitively, one would question whether or not people of other races would be referred to in the same fashion and aspect. Therefore, the essence of this argument is that the people of color have been demeaned and disgraced by such reference, to the effect that they are classless and lack in style by extension.

    Conventionally, the poem records that there is a difference in the way the races view one another sine there is a deep sense of acrimony amongst the races. It is to say that the people of all the races are not at peace or friendly with one another for one justifiable reason or another. This is seen in the fifth line…”Her blood is mingled with her ancient foes”… seeks to highlight the long-standing acrimony and standing dispute between the different races. The term foe in the ordinary and common aspect refers to a person who is not friendly or not an acquaintance. Thus, the blanket description that a person would be a foe brings to light the reasoning and argument that there must have existed some form of racial feuds and bad blood between the various races. Historically, the people of color have experienced painful episodes of exploitation, colonization and overall domination at the hands of the whites or other races by extension. Accordingly, it would be justifiable if the people of color, for instance, would have some hard feelings or any urge for vengeance against the other races. Essentially, the reference and meaning that there was some feud in the ancient times of historical spheres highlight the argument of fear or lack of friendliness. One arguable point and the assumption would be that people of one race must have inflicted some form of pain or intrusion against the other races for there to be a rivalry. Similarly, the reference that the feud or rivalry happened in the ancient or past refers to the likelihood that the infringement, pain or intrusion is long standing or has transcended the test of time. Tentatively, one would justify some of the publicly known forms and cases of racial abuse and discrimination such as slavery, colonization, imperialism or any other form of racial domination that affected one race while upholding the dignity and class of the other.

    Also, the human society has experienced episodes and times of battles where people of one race attacked or maimed other for one reason or another. The irreducible minimum is that there must have been some sort of resistance, rebellion and armed struggle from all the sides of the racial divide, notwithstanding the offensive side. After some time, it would be imminent on the part of the generations of a race to develop aggression, resilience and thrill to go through the war. Thus, one generation would pass to the next the spectrum of battle thrill so that they would expect such things such as wars or have the strength to go through with them. It is to say that the generations of posterity would have some innate thrill associated with such racial conflicts. It may not matter that one was not present at the time of the battle or the struggles; it would suffice that one would be born with innate feeling and disposition about the war. This argument and position are supported by the sixth line of the poem…”And thrills with war and wildness in her veins”….that stipulates that the people born in future and subsequent generations would have some veins in them to prepare them for racial feuds and other associated conflicts. The same argument about national freedom and racial emancipation is embedded in the tenth line…”The latest promise of her nation's doom,”…where a generation of people seeks to redeem their nation or motherland. It goes without saying that the people of one race live in the same geographical area such as country. Thus, their endeavors to redeem their nationhood must encompass their struggles to protect their sovereignty against foreign races or elements. In a nutshell, the people of one race occupying a given geographical location say a nation have purposed to protect their racial identity and national heritage by extension.

    In conclusion, the argument above has pointed to the direction that the human society posits elements of racial separations and strained relations by extension. The argument of this paper is inclined that the people of color are treated with a relatively lower form of reverence as compared to the people of other races. For instance, the introductory lines highlight the lack of class and decorum on the part of one race due to the meanly skewed descriptions regarding that race. In the same line of thought and reasoning, one would draw parallels and meanings from the historical realities that have long affected the different races so as to arrive at an informed conclusion. Intuitively, the mood and tone of the poem have introduced the instances of acrimony, hatred, and conflict between the different races of the human society.
