Food Security | MyPaperHub

One of the biggest questions that many people ask is whether by 2050 there will be sufficient food for all the human population. The human population by 2050 is expected to be around 9 billion people if the current population growth rate will continue being experienced. The biggest threat to food security by 2050 as far as human race is concerned is the fastest growing population, as this will mean that more land will need to be put to agricultural use. However, this might not be true as population growth in the last couple of decades has not created food problems as food production has increased per acre compared to what was produced more than a century ago.

On the other hand, climate change is another threat that seems to be raising concern on whether the world will manage to have enough food for its population by 2050. Climate changes mean that the amount of rainfall received annually have decreased significantly and this impacts negatively on the ability of farmers in most developing countries who depend on rainfall to engage in farming related activities. This means that rain-fed agriculture is going to be impacted negatively leading to low food security in the future, which might be a threat to food security.

Based on the above two reasons, a couple of experts have predicted that in the future the world will experience food security challenges, especially with high population growth rate by 2050. Nonetheless, I beg to differ with them, as there will be sufficient food to meet the needs of world population by 2050 if the appropriate food production and population management measures are put in place. The mechanization of food production in most of the parts of the world, such as the U.S will be a major boost towards ensuring there is food security in the world. According to Tupy (2015) the introduction of autonomous vehicles, which allow farmers to plant, monitor crops as well as harvest will help to complete farming mechanization in the U.S, thereby, leading to increased agricultural productivity. Thus, if the world will continue investing heavily in the area of agricultural production mechanism, especially in the area of food, the amount of food produced by acre will increase, meaning that enough food will be produced as the world population continues growing by 2050.

Additionally, Barkham and Newell (2015) argue that reduction of unwanted pregnancies which accounts for 75 millions of new births annually will play a great role in ensuring that the world population grows in a sustainable way. Therefore, if the world population will be controlled, the global community will be in a position to adequately feed the entire population.

Finally, increasing the production of grains, and reducing meat production will help in generating adequate food for the world population by 2050. Barkhan and Newell (2015) indicates that the majority of the world population dependents on calories from vegetable diets and grains, which the farmers can produce adequately around the world. This means that if the more agricultural land is put into the production of grains and vegetable diet, the world will manage to have enough food for its high population by 2050. In conclusion, with proper food production planning measures, the world will continue having sufficient food for its every growing population, even in the future.
