Dear Mr. /Ms. Last Name,

RE: LETTER OF INTEREST TO DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INC.

For young African American women like myself, I believe your organization is crucial for empowerment as well as social and economic growth in this nation. The sorority is credited for offering great opportunities for empowerment to African American women at a time when the nation was against them as a race and gender.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was developed to offer opportunities to women in society during a very difficult time. The organization also has a great track record of improving social and economic conditions for women around the world. It has allowed women to access quality education and has embarked on community development through various programs.

I am a great advocate of the sorority because of its ability to stand during tough times. A good example is currently, where the nation is divided more than ever. This is a time that needs great levels of unity and service to the community. As the nation is plunged into conflicts due to differences associated with race, more and more people suffer from limited access to resources, disenfranchisement, and high levels of hatred. The sorority has proven that a united society is possible and is capable of reducing social problems of division.

Many African American women live in societies where they are discriminated based on their color and gender. This is an aspect that has placed them very low in American society, limiting their access to resources and making them highly dependent. The sorority has provided them with opportunities to stand on their own, access quality education, get good jobs, and have a higher level of power in society. This is important because it has allowed many African American women to become masters of their destinies rather than being slaves to society.

I would like to join the sorority and become a member. I am a very hardworking student both socially and academically. I have a very high interest in social programs associated with the empowerment of women, youths, and economically troubled individuals. I have great communication skills and believe I can grow to become a great leader in the organization. My interest is completely in line with the vision and goals of the sorority, and I trust that I can offer a lot to the group.

Currently, I am a student in my undergraduate program and wish to get a higher level of exposure to different aspects of society, for which I believe the organization is capable of offering. Through your different social programs, I believe I will get exposed to the world and become a better individual. I take part in many school programs because I believe in their ability to help fellow students and their respective community.

Your sorority is high on my wishlist because it directly influences me as an African American woman. I am currently in various clubs in schools such as the SABLE and SAPB. I have made great contributions to these clubs and believe that as a member of your sorority, I would be able to offer insight into aspects of my school and others in the area. I can also help link the sorority to major community programs that I have access to while in the other clubs at school.

I am very dedicated and hardworking. I would, therefore, like to ask to be a member of your organization. I would appreciate it if I got a chance to talk to a member of your organization to explore how my skills and experience may fit in your organization.

Sincerely,
