Research
Good research is key!
Decide on a cultural or societal theme that will be the focus of your research.
Once you have decided on this theme, select five artists who create artworks
that, in your opinion, reflect this chosen theme. You should include four artists
that we have learned about during the course and one that you have found
through outside research.
Exhibition Images
Part of your research
includes gathering visual aides. Build a Powerpoint Presentation using ten
slides. This presentation should identify the venue for the exhibition; it can
be in a gallery, an art center, a museum, or out in public space. Also include an exhibition map that shows how
the work is to be displayed. This map can be hand-drawn or computer-generated.
Be creative! Then make slides for each of the artworks you want to include in
your show. All images of artworks must include captions giving information
about the work. Caption information includes; artist name, the title of work,
medium, and the year it was made, if available. You will need to include a
Works Cited page.
Writing
Create an essay that
explains your exhibition proposal. Your essay should be formatted as follows:
Introduce the
exhibition (Intro Paragraph 1)
Give your exhibition a
title, then state the issue you are trying to bring to light through this
selection of works. What ideas do you hope to communicate with this exhibition?
Why is it relevant? Name the artists you have curated into your exhibition. You
can include a story or facts on the topic to get the readers' attention; this
will draw them in and create a curiosity about the works included.
Give background (Body
Paragraph 2)
State how you went
about choosing each one and be clear about the common thread that connects each
artist you have selected. Discuss the impact this exhibition may have on the
public.
Intro the 1st Artwork
(Body Paragraph 3)
(a) A quote from the
artist or an art critic about the work
(b) Give your
interpretation of the work
(c) Point out how it
mirrors your theme.
(d) Transition to the
next artist.
Intro the 2nd Artwork
(Body Paragraph 4)
(a) A quote from the
artist or an art critic about the work
(b) Give your
interpretation of the work
(c) Point out how it
mirrors your theme.
(d) Transition to the
next artist.
Intro the 3rd Artwork
(Body Paragraph 5)
(a) A quote from the
artist or an art critic about the work
(b) Give your
interpretation of the work
(c) Point out how it
mirrors your theme.
(d) Transition to the
next artist.
Intro the 4th Artwork
(Body Paragraph 6)
(a) A quote from the
artist or an art critic about the work
(b) Give your
interpretation of the work
(c) Point out how it
mirrors your theme.
(d) Transition to the
next artist.
Intro the 5th Artwork
(Body Paragraph 7)
(a) A quote from the
artist or an art critic about the work
(b) Give your
interpretation of the work
(c) Point out how it
mirrors your theme.
(d) Transition to the
conclusion.
Conclusion
Restate the issue you
are trying to bring to light through this selection of works and how they reflect
the times we live in now. State why you feel that these works shown together
reflect a unique cultural perspective.
Compose your essay as a
WORD doc or Docx file labeled with your first and last name, then the
assignment. Example: Jane Doe Term Project.doc
Use the Chicago Manual
of Style, which includes footnotes
You will need both a
bibliography and a Works Cited page at the end.
Note that a “works
cited page,†and a “bibliography†is not the same thing. On a work cited page,
you only list items you have referred to and cited in your paper, and a
bibliography lists all of the material you have consulted in preparing your
essay draft whether or not you have referred to and cited the work.
