Scenario

The
scenario is associated with the choice involving finishing classes in order to
get promoted at a current job or shifting and joining another organization
which pays better. Working in a company for eleven years is a quite a
dedication to it, and without any promotion, one might feel as if he or she is
stuck in the same position. Going back to school looks like a good option to
increase chances of getting promoted which come with a better income and also
the company is offering reimbursement on the money spent on school. On the
other hand, a previous supervisor is offering a job position in another company
offering better salary and the job a guarantee if the choice is made, but the
company does not offer reimbursement on the money spent for school. In this
case, the issue is the need for a better pay, and one company is offering it
while in the other one has to increase education credentials first and then
hope to be promoted. However, there is no guarantee that after spending money
for school, the company would offer the promotion. It would only guarantee the
reimbursement but not the promotion. The fact that the person has spent eleven
years in the company with no promotion says a lot about the company and the
lack of guarantee puts the next option more viable. The next option is
associated with a guarantee from a previous supervisor who left the current
company for the other one. The job position offered is a guarantee, and this is
based on the previous supervisor who is now an employee there, and the job
offers more money.
Based
on a systematic manner for solving problems and critical thinking, the issue
has to be handled and a decision made based on a lot of wisdom because both
money and time are at stake. A six-step problem-solving model is ideal for
tackling this issue and coming up with the best possible solution. The first
step in this process is associated with the definition of the problem. In this
case, the problem is associated with the need for better pay for which the
current employment is not offering, and there is still no guarantee that it
will offer after finishing a second degree. However, the second employment
position is offering a better pay, and the position is a guarantee (Problem Solving Model,
2017).
The
second stem is associated with the determination of the root cause of the
problem, and in our case, it is associated with working for many years without
an increase in income. This can sometimes be very devastating because promotion
and increase in income are usually a very good motivating factor that also
comes with a higher job title and more prestige and increases the level of
employees work within the organization. It is usually very desirable and is
usually a very good sign of esteem as well as value from the employer. In this
scenario, the previous supervisor wants to offer the new position in the next company
because of how the employee was hardworking and dedicated. The lack of
promotion in the current job despite the many years of service shows the lack
of consideration and also shows the employment has not taken notice of the
efforts the employee has made for so many years (Problem Solving Model, 2017).
The
third step is associated with the development of an alternative solution to the
problem and from the scenario going back to school seems like a good way of
rising in ranks in the current job. Going to school and pursuing education
gives a person more skills and knowledge and thus provides an edge within an
organization as far as the employment is concerned. Going back to school adds
more credential to the resume of a person and the employee become more likely
to get a promotion, receive a better pay and earn a better job title. It is one of the biggest ways through which
employees move up the employment ladder within organizations because the more
credentials one has the better chance of getting promoted (Employee Promotion., 2017). This is a very good alternative for
getting promoted but in the case of the scenario, the company has not yet
offered any new promotion offers, and the added degree classes may not be
helpful immediately because the promotion is not a guarantee at the moment. The
other alternative is associated with taking up the offer provided by the
previous supervisor who is guaranteeing a good job position in another company
which means the employee will have to resign and then takes up the new job. It
also means that the money spent for taking classes will not be reimbursed, but
the job is a guarantee and it comes with a far better pay than the current one (Problem Solving Model,
2017).
The
fourth step is associated with the selection of an alternative, and in this
scenario, the best possible solution is taking up the second solution
associated with accepting the new job position which has a better pay. It will
mean that the employee will have to leave the current job and all the promises
of reimbursement it had. He or she will have gained a better paying job and
also more education credential. The is a dilemma that is associated with having
final exams the week of recruitment, but the exams can always be postponed and
be done at a later time. After the employee secures the job, he or she can
finish the exams, get the new degree and he or she will have a better change in
the new company of being promoted further than he or she could have ever been
in the previous job he was for eleven years (Employee Promotion., 2017).
The
fifth step involves implementing the solution, and this involves accepting the
new job, settling in and working hard in the new company. It also means
accepting the fact that he or she no longer works for the previous job and has
to let go of the promises of reimbursement. It also means that the employee can
now find time go and finish the exams he or she left for the degree courses,
pass well in order to receive good credentials. He or she may also decide to
further education by pursuing and master degree as a means for career
development and growth in the new organization (Problem Solving Model, 2017).
The
last step is associated with the evaluation of the outcomes of the newly
adopted solution and for the decision and choice to be successful and well
informed; the new job position ought to provide job satisfaction, better pay,
and room for growth that lacked in the previous job (Problem Solving Model, 2017).
