The author of the book – Nalini Vadivelu – is a professor at Yale University. He has done extensive analysis with regards to anesthesiology and he is an associate professor in the department of Anesthesiology in the School of Medicine. The book has a wealth of information with regards to pain assessment and management in the elder. The book is a resource for nay pain management practitioner, student, or trainee. The book contains the essential topics with regards to pain management in the elderly. Although there is information about pain from different age brackets, most of the resources have been invested in the analysis and presentation of pain in elderly people. The book is filled with cases through which analysis of pain in the elderly is presented. There are different clinical decisions and major developments outlined with regards to pain assessment and management in the elderly. The basic concepts and the complicated procedures that govern pain assessment and management in the elderly are presented in the book. These are analyzed with regards to how they can become inform the clinical decisions that are employed when assessing and managing pain in the elderly. In the book, there is a lot of information that has been provided with regards to the different forms of pain in the elderly. The book also contains extensive analysis with regards to the progression of pain in the elderly. Here, the author looks a how different forms of pain affect people within the elderly bracket and how these forms of pain can be dealt with effectively. The assessment looks at pain in different stages and the impact, assessment, and management of pain in the elderly.

            This is one of the most detailed resources with regards to the analysis of pain management in the elderly. Here, the major analysis is divided into the clinical assessment and management of both chronic and acute pain in the elderly. The topics discussed in the course of the book contain a wealth of information with regards to how pain – present in the elderly people - is handled. The different symptoms and what they translate to has also been presented in the course of the book. Different pain ailments and how they affect the elderly is one of the most discussed topics in the course of the book. One of the reasons why the book is fit for this literature review is evident in the practical and comprehensive reference done with regards to pain management and assessment in the elderly. The book looks at past and present cases with regards to pain management and uses this information to come up with a detailed and practical pain management and assessment techniques. The book provides information about pain assessment and management in the elderly through extensively analyzing topics such as invasive procedures, neuraxial pharmacotherapy, pharmacologic interventions, physical therapies, pain in terminally ill patients, visceral pain, managed care, rheumatologic disorders, medicolegal issues, occupational therapies, and cancer pain. All these are headings through which information about pain assessment and management in the elderly is presented. The information provided in these different topics is then reorganized to come up with detailed information with regards to effective assessment and management of pain in the elderly.

            As the title of the book suggests, the entire book has invested in the definition and analysis of pain in older people. Here, there has been extensive analysis of the different causes of pain in the older people. In the book, pain has been analyzed with regards to later life and how it affects different people. Pain is assessed with regards to later life and the analysis undertaken looks at pain as a disabling agent. Pain is presented as being both disabling and common with regards to later life. The book goes on to provide the different types of pain and how these affect older people. Pain in later life has been analyzed with regards to the differences that exist therein. Here, pain has been assessed in terms of diagnosis, aetiology, and treatment. The differences that exist with regards to pain have been analyzed statistically using data from old people. Co-morbidities, anxiety, depression, cognitive impairment, and mental health problems are some of the pain assessment platforms that have informed the analysis in the course of the book. The book also provides detailed information with regards to the treatment and management of the various types of pain present in later life. The book has been listed as a resource to medical practitioners who handle patient who suffer from pain related conditions. The book also discusses rare cases of pain presented by older patients and the manner in which these types of pain cab be assessed and managed. There is excellent epidemiology of the different pain cases present in different patients as well as information with regards to palliative medicine, pain management, geriatric medicine, rheumatology, and surgery. These have been analyzed with regards to both primary and secondary care in older patients.
