Education and the Risk Society

Sal Khan in his speech ‘Master in education” talks about the issue offering students opportunities of providing feedback and assessment on a regular basis after learning every new concept in class as the basis of enhancing mastery of education. Khan argues that master in education is possible through "providing feedback and assessment throughout the learning process, not just after a major assessment." This concept is related to the article on "education and the risk society." The article tries to relate the concept of risk in the society and education.  The concept of risk as discussed in this article relates to what Khan talks about the need of providing an opportunity for assessment and feedback in making the master of education possible among the students.  

 First, the article indicates that analyzing risk using different perspectives either in education or general life plays a central role in its eradication. Therefore, to understand risk in education, there is a need for ensuring that it is analyzed using different approaches for purposes of understanding the magnitude of the risk involved in a certain process for purposes of putting in place measures that can aid in the elimination of the risk identified. The master of education faces the risk of a student not having understood the concept taught to them due to teaching method errors or delivery error. Hence, for purposes of identifying these risks use of assessment and feedback perspective can be instrumental in identifying specific threats to the master of the various concepts and ideas during the learning process. Thus, the concept of risk analysis as addressed by the article can be central in helping to enhance master of education in the society. Analyzing risk in education helps in identifying all potential threats to certain process and therefore employing the right strategies to deal with various types of risks.

 The article indicates that risk is essential for new skills, concepts and knowledge can be acquired by learners. Therefore, the risk is an essential component in the field of education. It is through risk taking that a person can learn new skills, concept, and knowledge in life. For example, it is through investing in education that one can acquire knowledge. It is true as the article indicates that risk is part of the education process. If one needs to acquire high education one has to take the risk of investing time and financial resources with an objective of getting returns in the form of degree or certificate. It would not be possible to acquire this level of education unless one is willing to take risk through time and financial resources investment. In education mastery, it is not possible for the educator to enhance student's ability to master ideas and concepts unless the risk of carrying out assessment and taking the initiative of getting either positive or negative feedback is taken.

 Finally, risk has led to the emergence of capitalism in the society. The need to manage risk in different fields, such as business and the maritime sector has forced the people to come up with ways of dealing with risk from a commercial perspective. This has led to the emergence of risk experts and insurance firms, which help individuals in the society to manage through pooling of funds together so as to ensure continuity of business in cases where risk cannot be successfully be prevented from occurring. Therefore, in general, risk has been modernized by ensuring that appropriate strategies to deal with it are developed in accordance modern principles and concepts that continue being created in the society, such as technology. Therefore, risk in education can be successfully managed by ensuring that it is modernized at all times.
