The Seven Signs of John:
1. Changing water into wine John 2: 1-11
i) What does the story say about people?
This
is a story of the first miracle of Jesus where he and his disciples were
invited to a wedding in Cana, Galilee. Jesus’ mother tells him that there is
wine and asks for pots to be filled with water and he turns the water into wine
and the people celebrate. His disciple now believes him because of the miracle.
The story show how it is was difficult for people to believe in Jesus Christ as
the son of God. It was until he did the miracle that his disciple believed in
him.
ii) The story tells of how Jesus was trying to
kick start his mission, and he could only do so if people had some sort of
proof of who he truly was. The first people had to be the ones closest to him,
and they were his disciples. After the miracle they believed him
iii) The story shows how I need to know and
understand that Jesus Christ understands the world and it needs. That he came
to earth to save it and it was very important for him to turn water into wine
to kick start his mission on earth
iv)
This is a story for a person who wishes to know and understand the start of the
mission of Jesus while on earth.
2) Healing the Official’s Son John 4: 46-54
a) This is a miracle that Jesus Performs when
he goes back to Cana, Galilee from Judea. He is met by an official who pleads
with Jesus to come down to see his son so that he can heal him. Jesus tells him
that the only way to believe in him is by seeing signs and then tells the man
to go home his son has been healed. This story shows how difficult it is for
people to believe in Jesus Christ. It is his second time in the same place.
b) The story shows how important it is for Jesus
when people believe in him and his work. It is difficult because they only
believe in his miracles and quickly forget about his mission.
c) It shows how it is important for me to
believe in Jesus Christ whether he performs miracles or not.
d) This is a story for a person who needs to
understand that it is not always about the miracles but the mission of Jesus
Christ on his children.
3) the invalid of Bethesda John 5: 1-18
a) This is a story of Jesus healing a man who
had spent thirty-eight years at the pool in Bethesda. It is a story that shows
how people conform to the rules of the world and fail to understand that Jesus
Christ is above it all. The Jews had been used to the healing power of the pool
that took place in seasons, but when Jesus came and healed the man, they got
angry because he did it on a Sabbath.
b) This story shows that Jesus is truly the
Son of God and that he has power over everything. For something the Angel does
seasonally, Jesus came and did it, and the Jews were angered.
c) It shows that I need to understand the
power of Jesus is above everything and I should follow him rather than the
rules set by men.
d) This is a story for a person who needs to
understand that Jesus is above man and he is truly the son of God.
4) the feeding of the 5000 John 6:5-14
a) This was a story about Jesus when he fed a
huge mass of people with only five loaves and two small fish. It is a story
that shows how important the miracles Jesus performed were important in order
for them to believe in Jesus. After the miracle, many believed in him as the
Son of God that comes to save the world.
b) This is a story that shows the great effort
Jesus and his disciples were making. The number of followers was still growing,
and more and more people were beginning to believe in his mission.
c) The story shows how it is for me to believe
in Jesus Christ and his mission. Jesus was dedicated to spreading his words to
everyone around the world.
d) This is a story aimed at a person who needs
to understand the great power of Jesus Christ. With only 5 pieces of bread as
well as 2 small fish, he was able to feed masses, and there was still plenty
left.
5) Jesus walks on water John 6: 16-21(25-35)
a) This is a story whereby the disciples of
Jesus sail without him to Capernaum. A strong wind blows, and they fear, but
outside the boat, they see Jesus approaching while walking on water and they
are astonished. It shows how despite the many days the people spend with Jesus,
they still doubt him. Jesus, therefore, had to renew the faith of his disciples
by showing them his power.
b) This story shows that Jesus is keen to
ensure that those around him for who he considers close still believe in him.
c) It shows me how Jesus made a lot to win the
faiths of the people. Despite the various miracles he performed he still has to
renew the faiths of the people around. It shows that faith in Jesus has to be
renewed from time to time in order to be strong.
d) The story is for a person whose faith is
dwindling and needs to have his or her faith renewed. It is a story that shows
how important it was to Jesus for the closest people around him to have faith
in him.
6) Jesus heals a man born blind John 9:1-41
a) This was a story of Jesus when he healed a
blind man from birth. It was a time that the Jews were angry with the works of
Jesus and wanted to cast him out of the Synagogue once they found him. This is
a story that shows how people can be rigid when it comes to the things they
believed in. The Jews and specifically the Pharisees call themselves the
disciples of Moses and do not want to hear anything about Jesus Christ, and
Jesus wants to make it known that he is the true savior of the and the son of God and the Savior of the world.
b) It is a story that shows how Jesus wished
to break the religious ways of the past by establishing himself as the light of
the world.
c) It shows that following Jesus is the true
ticket to God and eternity in heaven. It shows that it is important to trust
and believe in Jesus because he is the light of the earth and savior of the
world.
d) It is a story of a person who wishes to
understand who Jesus truly is. It also draws a comparison to the teaching of
the Old Testament and most of all the teachings of Moses for which the
Pharisees considered very important. However, Jesus comes in with a renewed
teaching of the word of God, one that is strongly built upon the Old Testament.
7) The Resurrection of Lazarus John 11: 17-46
a) This was a story of Jesus when he raised
the brother of Martha and Mary, Lazarus from the dead. The people had grown to
use to the miracle of Jesus, and they said if he were around Lazarus would not
have died. But it was as if they did not fully believe in Jesus and he performed
the miracle to show them the power of God so that they could believe.
b) It shows how Jesus has the power of life
and resurrection and was able to overpower death and bring Lazarus back to
life. The people still needed to see his miracles for them to believe in him
and follow his teachings.
c) The story shows me how far Jesus went for
people to understand that he was the son of God. It also helps by showing me
how Jesus Christ is powerful and could command death.
d) The story is for a person who has lost hope
and needs his or her faith strengthened by understanding the power of Jesus
Christ. It shows that despite any challenge, Jesus can always shine through it
and all one has to do is to trust in Jesus and have faith in him.
Reflection and Application
The Gospel and mission of Jesus Christ were to teach people of the word of God. The Gospel of Jesus Christ was and is very important because people get the chance to understand God for them to live by Him. The seven signs of John are a compilation of some of the important miracles Jesus performed on earth. They were written by John who was the disciple of Jesus and was beside him throughout his mission on earth. He simplified the signs in this manner as an eye opener for people to see and understand the power of Jesus. They are important for instilling in people the faith of Jesus Christ and teach people the importance of His mission on earth because these seven signs best represent the power of Jesus Christ and his mission on this earth. I have gone through all the seven signs and read them thoroughly in the Bible. I have personally gained a deeper understanding of Jesus Christ and his mission on earth. The seven signs have managed to open my heart to Jesus and the Holy Spirit of God. They have helped shed all forms of doubt and given me new strength in my belief of Jesus Christ.
